New Blog Launch: PhotographicBlog.com

I’m pleased to announce the launch of our latest website within Kooc Media, Photographic Blog. This site is a joint venture between myself and a friend – Tony Webber who is an amazing Photographer.

As you can see from the site, it is very new – we have just 6 posts so far on there but are working hard on a few more at the moment. We intend to slowly grow this into one of the largest and friendliest Photography Communities online. Once traffic levels reach suitable levels, we will be expanding the site to include forums and Photo hosting for it’s members.

I wrote a short piece over on WPLift about building the site and will be revisiting this every 3 months or so, so people who are interested can see the growth of the site and what we did to achieve it.

If you are interested in Photography, head over and grab the RSS Feed and our Twitter Feed.

Free WordPress theme release: Busby

Today I released my first free WordPress theme into the wild over on WPLift, the theme is called “Busby” after the great Sir Matt Busby. I have been working on this theme on and off for a while now so it’s good to finally get it out there. No doubt I will have to do some bug fixes as there is only so much testing you can do yourself.

This is the first of a few themes I’m planning to release – Im allready well into the design of my second one which will be a portfolio / image gallery style theme.

Moving my life to the cloud

The plan next year for my girlfriend and I is to move to somewhere in Spain, we have both had enough of England for now, so we’re going to try a warmer climate for 6 months and see how it goes. While I was out for my run today I started thinking about what to do with all my “stuff” – I have a big DVD collection, Photos, Books etc – I stopped buying physical music a long time ago but still have some CDs, a set of 1210s and a vinyl collection. I have stopped downloading music and now stream everything using Last.fm and Spotify so I think it’s time I did the same with the other physical posessions I own.

The plan is to either retain digital copies of everything and store it in the cloud or find a service which makes it redundant. Its going to be quite a long process I think but I believe it’s time to move on from owning large amounts of physical possessions – do I really need albums of photos taking up space when I can scan them and keep in my Flickr or Amazon S3 account ?

There are some things I will need to put into storage – business accounts, as its a legal requirement to keep copies of receipts etc (for 3 years I think?).

Posessions I need to keep are :

  • Clothes
  • Computing Equipment
  • Sporting Equipment ( I play tennis / footbal/ / badminton and go running)

Everything else can go on eBay or to charity. I will document any online services I find along the way to help with this process – if anyone has recommendations for apps / services to try out, please let me know …

Need some up to date Social Media icons ?

A while ago I made some 32px Social Media icons and released them on WPLift for free download. After a request on Twitter today, I have updated them to include Google +, Plancast and Github. You can re-download the zip to get the updated icons.

If anyone else has requests for additions to this set, just let me know and I’ll do my best to add them.
